Beckett James {3 days new - lifestyle newborn session}

Welcome to the world, Beckett!

October 5th, 2017           7:48pm
6 pounds 14 ounces             19 inches

I got to meet this little guy not even 3 days after his arrival, and he is just the cutest little bundle! It is always humbling and an honor to be a part of such a tender, raw season of life, and this was no exception. This sweet family has become great friends of ours, and I was so excited to be able to capture some special moments while their new little love was super fresh. Beckett was very excited to join the crazy awesomeness of his 3 older siblings, so his arrival was quick! His mom and dad didn't know beforehand if he was a boy or a girl, so everyone was especially eager to meet him. Now he's here, and the snuggle fest can start!

Emmett is ONE! {cake smash}

Since I don't use a studio, the chance to do a cake smash doesn't come around all that often. However, this special little guy happens to be mine, and I can make a studio out of our kitchen if I feel like it. :) A couple of rolls of white paper and a bucket of baseballs later, we've got a super cute cake smash set-up for this handsome one year old who has baseball running through his veins whether he likes it or not. With my trusty 3 year old assistant at my side, we got ready for the madness and set Emmett up with one his favorite things - cake. He is the only one of my children who actually enjoyed doing a cake smash, so he gets brownie points for making mama happy and being a ham. Bonus - the kitchen smelled like frosting for a few days after this fun. We love, love, love this little guy and I am so grateful that the good Lord let be his mommy!

Family Sessions {lifestyle family photography}

I did some major soul searching recently about why photographing families hasn't been my favorite. Like, ever. In the past, family sessions tended to me make me very anxious, I could never think clearly enough to make everyone look "perfect", and most of all, the way I was going about it wasn't staying true to my artistic style and who I wanted to be as a photographer. Because of this, I decided to give true "lifestyle" family photography a shot, and aim for capturing CONNECTION over PERFECTION. I took some advice and a few lessons from a veteran photographer I really admire, and set out on this new journey! It was so fun to learn something new, and I can honestly say that it ignited my excitement for family photography, and I hope to offer more of these sessions in the future! I think this is what I had in me the whole time, and it was just waiting to be invited out. :)

Thank you to these lovely families (and a few not pictured) who were as excited as I was to try something new and step away from the norm to be "artsy". Yahoo!!
